The road ahead is indeed a curvy one for both teens and their parents. The first four years of driving can be freeing, exhilarating, confusing and scary all at the same time.  It’s our mission to help guide you through this new and trying time so that you can experience all of the new freedom and roadside attractions without hitting the potholes and roadblocks.

Your teen years are some of the most exciting and transformative years of your life.  Add to that the freedom, responsibility, uncertainty and peril of getting behind the wheel and you can be left with a lot of questions.  We can help.

Wisconsin State Law

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation has many laws governing driver’s education.  Here are a few things that you’ll need to know right away to get you started down the right path.

Students can begin the classroom portion of their driver’s education training as early as age 14 1/2.

Students can get their instruction permit (temps) as early as age 15.

Students must pass the signs and knowledge tests prior to receiving their temps.

Students must have their original birth certificate, social security card, proof of address and an adult sponsor to receive their temps.

Students must be enrolled in a driver’s education program prior to obtaining their temps.

Students are required to hold their temps for a minimum of 6 months.

Students can get their probationary license as early as age 16.

Students must pass a road test prior to receiving their probationary license.
